Fire encloses the heavens; the earth rests within the elements. In Hildegard of Bingen’s Scivias, creation takes the form of an immense egg, ordered through light, air, water, and the movement of winds.
This original Etherfolk interpretation draws upon Book I, Vision III, rendering its layered universe in the visual language of Romanesque manuscript illumination. Vermilion, deep blue, sandy ochre, and parchment tones give each region a distinct place within the enclosing form.
A botanical border and restrained historical lettering complete the manuscript-inspired composition. Printed on canvas within a pine floating frame, the work brings visionary cosmology into a library, theological study, or contemplative interior.
