Sacred Tree of Nimrud Framed Canvas, Assyrian Winged Guardians
from $78.10
Within the palace walls of ancient Assyria, the sacred tree stood beneath the watch of winged guardians.
Two protective figures face one another across a stylized tree of branching palmettes and sacred ornament. Their horned headdresses, elaborate feathered wings, and ritual vessels recall the monumental reliefs of Nimrud, where supernatural beings appeared throughout the royal chambers and ceremonial spaces.
Inspired by the carved alabaster panels of the Northwest Palace of Ashurnasirpal II, dating to the ninth century BCE, this composition preserves the distinctive visual language of Neo-Assyrian art. The measured symmetry, ceremonial gestures, and intricately ordered forms evoke a world in which royal authority, divine protection, and sacred symbolism were closely bound.
Rendered in pale limestone, warm sand, and subdued earthen tones, the artwork carries the quiet presence of an ancient architectural relic.
The textured canvas and slender wooden floating frame complement the sculptural appearance of the illustration, offering a substantial historical artwork for a study, library, or considered interior.
